An interesting and varied position. You will be responsible for developing a wide range of web applications as per client requirements. Common projects include ecommerce websites, content management systems, brochure websites and jobsites in addition to HTML emails. But keep an open mind as you never know what the next client will throw in the mix!
As the Web Developer you will have excellent front end development skills (as listed above), in addition you will have sound knowledge of cross browser compatibility, web standards and accessibility. You will be knowledgeable in SEO principals and techniques and will assist the SEO Specialist where necessary, developing websites for optimal results in the search engines.
Back end you will predominately be using PHP/MySQL, though we do have some Classic ASP / MS SQL Server / Access websites, so any experience in this area would be an advantage. You should be at home with the administration of Linux/Apache for configuring and securing your applications. In addition we use Windows Server 2003/2008, exposure to the configuration and security of IIS on these platforms would be a bonus. Any in-depth knowledge of Linux or Windows server administration will be warmly welcomed.
Your communication and interpersonal skills will be excellent as you will need to work closely with the Web Designer, SEO and Marketing Specialists as well as liaising with clients. Conversely, you should be happy to work on your own with minimal assistance and supervision. You will possess good organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines. You will be willing to learn and embrace new technologies.
To be considered for this position, experience in developing ecommerce websites, content management systems (ideally Drupal, MODx, WordPress or Joomla), brochure websites and HTML emails is required. Anything else you can bring to the table is great. Any experience developing jobsites or developing for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook etc) would be a bonus.
At least 2 years commercial experience is required as is examples of your work.
